Treatment for the final trailer

Treatment

For the final part of our development, we have had to produce a poster that will include all of the information about our horror trailer. This consists of the narrative and lot, the characters that are in the trailer, title, locations and the role that we will play in this. We have also included our film influences for our trailer which have helped us to establish solid ideas for our final trailer. Todorov and Propp have allowed us to create character profiles and a narrative that will help to follow the storyline that we have chosen to use, as well as Burton, to come up with our stock situations. We have created the poster in relation to our target audience, making it as appealing as we can.

Movie Working Title

The working film title for our trailer is ‘The Blind Spot’. The font we have used for the film title refers to the title itself, as the ‘O’ used in the font looks like an eye. The font is used to appeal to our target audience and is easy to recognise as horror, as it seems as though the font itself is dripping blood. The jagged edges on the writing connote the way a serrated knife would be jagged, providing the reader with an imagery of violence and injury.d injury.

Tag Line
The tag line for our trailer is 'Only the Blind can see' as it relates to the synopsis and working title of the film. The main character can only see the antagonist in her blind spot. She is unable to show anyone else. Therefore, only those who are 'blind' to the actions that the others are taking (drugs, sex, alcohol) are able to view the antagonist first.

Format
The format for our film will be a film trailer.

Genre and sub-genre
The sub genre of our horror trailer will be a mix of supernatural and psychological. The theme of the trailer is punishment, as the teens are punished for acting in a way that society would disagree with, bending the rules in a way which the older generation would see as unacceptable.

Tense
Present tense

Intended audience
Our intended audience are males and females between the ages of 15-28. The trailer we are making does not aim for a certain gender as the plot is available to both genders, creating a wider audience perception of horror and how it is unisex.

Team Production Logo

This is the team production logo we have come up with for Anomaly Productions. We feel it is very simple and therefore, easily recognisable to an audience. It is not graphic or complicated but still manages to portray a sense of professionalism.

Synopsis

The trailer starts with five friends in the woods, camping out overnight. Four of them have alcohol/cigarettes/drugs. All five of the characters will be middle class teenagers, living in London. They will be the stock characters that Burton talks about; the jock, the nerd, the promiscuous girl, the ethnic minority and the final girl. The fifth character will be the final girl. She will refuse to be involved in any of the activities. The trailer will cut to a shot of a symbol appearing on one of the nearby trees. All of the friends will carry on but the final girl will freeze as she sees the symbol. She’ll try to call her friends to look but they cannot see anything. This is due to the symbol being in her blind spot. The blind spot is a place between certain objects where the light does not hit, and the darkness (antagonist) resides in this area. As she has not participated in the activities, the symbol is clear for her to see while the other have no idea what is in store for them. When she looks again, it will be gone. This will start off a series of shots in busy locations in which she will begin to see the symbol more frequently. The main location for this will be central London, set during the evening. The four friends will all be by themselves, in a dark alley or isolated location in which no one else can see them. The darkness will gradually get more intense until they begin to see symbols appearing on their skin. One by one, the symbols begin to tear open, bleeding, eventually killing the character. The first character to die off will be the one this scene is focused on. Her other friends will also start to be killed off, one by one, surrounded by darkness  and will be levitating as the symbols are appearing on their skin. The end of the trailer will be the darkness as it encompasses the final girl in the original place that she saw the symbol, ending with a simple cut that fades to the title screen.

Subtext

The subtext for our trailer is societal punishment. The characters is the trailer are all of middle class status. However, they will be going out and doing things that would be classed as working class activities such as getting drunk and taking drugs. The antagonist in the trailer is not a physical being, but instead a darkness that brings about punishment in the form of dark pagan practice. This represents the way the government of today favour the middle class and would do anything in order to maintain this conservative force, therefore, watching everything the public do. This is shown by the antagonist in our trailer.

Todorov's Theory

The equilibrium of the trailer is the beginning, where the characters are established to the audience. There are five characters in the first scene, the stock characters that you would expect in a horror trailer; the jock, the nerd, the final girl, the promiscuous girl and the ethnic minority. This will enable the audience to see the 'norm'. This scene is set in the woods and shows the characters interaction. The disequilibrium is when the stock characters begin to be killed off. One by one, the antagonist begins to murder them. The final girl, however, is the last one to be confronted by the antagonist. The resolution is not shown in the trailer as to not ruin the film for the audience. The trailer will end with the confrontation between the antagonist and the final girl.

The film influences

The film influences for our trailer came from a mix of supernatural and psychological existing horror films. The main influence for our trailer was The Blair Witch Project. The idea of using supernatural symbols came from this film, as the threat in this is also unseen and leaves behind symbols as warnings. The other influences for our film trailer included Shutter and What Lies Beneath.  Shutter was an influence in the idea of our threat only being seen in the blind spot, similar to the threat only being seen in the camera lenses here.

Props
The props for our trailer will be quite minimal, as horror trailers go. We will need to use the typical props for the camp out scene, such as a tent and bottles that will pose as the alcohol. We will then need very minimal props after this, as most of the threat will be edited in, as well as the symbols being made using makeup. This is unusual as most horror trailers will include a phallic weapon of some kind.

Stock situations

-The murder scene
